Webinar Description

Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) are technically very efficient in providing support to the system thanks to their high flexibility. However, their high cost compared to other flexibility solutions remains a barrier to their deployment.  In that perspective, OSMOSE partners successfully designed, implemented and tested a Hybrid Flexibility Device (HFD) for the provision of multiple grid services. A Master Control coordinated the response of the HFD in combination with other energy storage systems already existing in the demonstrator in order to provide multiple grid-services.  This webinar will also present a database with BESS operation data and related data analytics tool.

Speakers:Alberto Escalera, REE ; Paula Pernaut Leza, CENER ; Joaquin Álvarez Agudo, GPTech ; Yves-Marie Bourien, CEA ; Olivier Emeraud, SAFT ;  Samuel Marrero, ULPGC

Intended audience: This webinar is mainly suitable for transmission system operators (TSO), energy providers, battery manufacturers and researchers in the fields of storage and control. The content of the webinar is also comprehensible for students and engineers with some background in power systems.

Key takeways: Battery Energy Storage Systems can now compete with other existing flexibility solutions to support system security and stability. Specific designs and controls tailored for system services make them all the more cost-effective in specific situations such as isolated systems.
